LURGAN Amateur Swimming Club (LASC) kicked off their swimming season in the PTL League with a home fixture to Coleraine Swimming Club on Friday.
The first event of the evening was the Medley Relays and Lurgan’s Girls' A Team of Alex Adams, Aoife Stones and Orla Thompson won their event. Lurgan’s C Team of Nadine Callaghan, Molly Dixon, Niamh Doran and Katie Allen won their heat with a very im
pressive time of 2.22.29 which was the fastest time in the Girls’ Relays. The four girls’ teams all achieved maximum points for Lurgan.

Lurgan’s Boys' Team were next up and they were not by outshone by their female colleagues. Lurgan's Group A, B and C all won their heats. After the Medley events, Lurgan led by 108 points to 72 points.

The Backstroke event was the first individual event of the evening and there were wins for Lurgan’s Aoife Stones, Molly Dixon and Eimear Brown. Max Hamilton, Mark McKinless and Jordan Leckey all achieved maximum points for LASC.

Ciara McVeigh got LASC off to a flying start in the Breaststroke event by winning her heat with an excellent time of 43.88. Molly Dixon then delivered another victory for Lurgan. Mark Fearon swam an excellent heat for Lurgan and was just narrowly tipped by his Coleraine opponent.

All of Lurgan’s swimmers achieved maximum points in the butterfly heats.

In the relays Lurgan’s Girls' C Group team won their heat comfortably and LASC’s next victory soon followed when Aidan McConville, Niall McDowell, Niall McCarron and Max Hamilton clocked 1.14.03 to win their heat. Lurgan’s final victory in the Relay events came from Jason Lau, Mark Fearon, Niall Stones and Niall McDowell.

The final score was Lurgan 612 points and Coleraine 522. Lurgan’s coaches were delighted with all of their young swimmers’ performances on the night and they would remind all parents that Lurgan’s next two fixtures of 2008 are:October 25, PTL Fixture (Lurgan V Templemore) Away

December 6, PTL Fixture (Lurgan V Newry & Mourne) Home
