WARINGSTOWN Seconds completed their fixtures on Saturday with a comfortable seven wicket victory against Woodvale to seal the Section 2(1) League for the first time in the club's history.
Cricket at any stage in September can be a challenge to organise but with plenty at stake, Waringstown are thankful to Woodvale for their efforts in preparing a pitch for the game.

Winning the toss, Captain Geoff Heyburn asked Woodvale to bat o
n a wicket that looked as if it would offer something for the bowlers. This was to be the case. After good opening spells from Simon Stokes and Keith Morrison, Jason Stokes, 3-20, and Ben McKnight, 5-23, shared eight wickets to restrict Woodvale to 73 all out in just 32 overs.

Chasing a low score can sometimes be tricky on a helpful wicket, however, the Waringstown batsmen stuck to the task despite the loss of Andrew Cousins (13), David Dawson (8) and Ian Morrison (3). At the end if was appropriate that Alan Waite (29 not out), supported by Jamie Mathews (17 not out), who struck the winning runs adding a seconds league title to his many other achievements in local cricket.

It has been a season where the weather has played a major role. With long periods of having no cricket played, it has been difficult to keep the interest and motivation to play on a Saturday. However, with just four league defeats from eighteen played, the players have showed that you get out of it what you put in and have ended the season as worthy league champions.
