Brian new under 21 boss
SARSFIELDS man Brian McAlinden has been appointed as the new manager of the Armagh under 21 team.
The former county goalkeeper, who stepped down from his senior post which he shared with Brian Canavan for a five year period until the end of 2001, will this season be assisted by St Paul’s clubman Liam McCorry and Gerry Flynn from Carrickcruppin.
The Trasna man was responsible for leading Armagh to their first Ulster title for 18 years back in 1999 and went close on the All-Ireland stage with Armagh but fell just short back in 2000 when his team lost to Kerry in an All-Ireland semi-final replay.
Brian led his club to their only Senior Championship success back in 1996.
Liam McCorry who hold a post as club development officer with the north Armagh board had a spell with the county minor team along with brother Laurence Ennis and Seamus Heffron,.
Last season Armagh under 21s were comfortably beaten by Donegal in the Ulster Championship opening round. The ‘Mail’ has gathered that John Byrne, who managed the Sarsfields seniors with Brian McAlinden back in 2006, is also part of the county’s under 21 set up.
