Clans lift County Minor League title

Clan na Gael 5-6 Granemore 1-12

CLAN na Gael minors blasted a gifted Granemore side at a floodlit Athletic Grounds last Friday night to collect the All County League title which will come as a major boost for the Blues following a disappointing season at senior level.

The young Lurgan team’s victory was put in place thanks to a hat-trick of goals form attacker Paul McKenna, which supplemented further strikes form Niall O’Hara and Ciaran McKendry.

Although the Clans didn’t finish top of their north Armagh section, they showed steady improvement beating Crossmaglen twice in the earlier stages of their all county campaign and it was no mean feat to lower the colours of a decent Granemore team on Friday night.

Team boss Gerard Skelton says his team benefited from playing on an all county stage.

He said: “tThe All County League was a great competition to be in. We didn’t always get the rub of the green in the north Armagh section which was very competitive this season but the boys have stuck at it and once again showed great determination.”

Although Granemore took leads at the start of both halves the Blues boosted by a sublime converted long range free from Gareth Morgan pushed themselves to a six-point victory.

Clan na Gael: Niall McConville, Glen France, Simon Magee, Patrick Lennon, David McCaughley, John Stewart, Peadar Nash, Gareth Morgan, Mathew Madden, Sean Ferron, Stephan Campbell, Niall McCann, Rory Thornbury, Ciaran McKendry, Patrick McKenna. Subs used: Niall O’Hara, Shea O’Hagan, Niall Patterson, Patrick Kelly, and Niall McStay.
