Double delight for Thirds

Waringstown’s Thirds maintained their lead at the top of Junior three with two wins in three days at The Lawn.

Instonians Thirds were the visitors on Thursday evening for a T20 match. The home side made 148 for 3 with Andrew Magennis making 56 not out, Stuart Harrison 44 and Jamie Matthews 24.

Instonians got themselves off to a quick start but from 50-2 they were bundled out for 99 to give Waringstown a 49 run victory with the wickets sharedthroughout the side and included three run outs.

On Saturday Civil Service North provided the opposition at The Lawn for Mark Fitzpatrick’s side.

Winning the toss the visitors chose to bat first. The bulk of there runs came from R Johnston (84) and M Corry (55) as they piled up 185-5 from 35 overs. Andrew Magennis returned figures 3-22 from his seven over quota.

Faced with a stiff run chase Waringstown’s openers Ryan Dennison (63no) and Stuart Harrison (38) got the home side off to a solid start before a slight wobble saw Harrison, Jamie Matthews and Ian Morrison depart within the space of 20 runs.

Paddy Allen (24) joined Dennison who was looking ever so comfortable at the crease as the pair moved their side to within 45 runs of victory before Allen hit a full toss straight to mid on.

This brought Andrew Magennis to the wicket as he blasted his side towards victorywith a quickfire 29 before holing out to mid off with just one required. This left the ever reliable Ryan Dennison to knock off the winning run and secure his side a five wicket victory their ninth from 11 outings in Junior three.

The Thirds are clear at the top of Junior 3 and with the final three games away it will be a stern test in the charge for the title. They play Instonians Thirds on Saturday.
