Waringstown Seconds into Ulster Plate final

A brilliant century from Andrew Mitchell secured Waringstown Seconds’ place in the final of the Ulster Plate on Sunday.

The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed 129 as Waringstown piled up a massive 319 for six in 40 overs against Bready Seconds.

Mitchell brought up his century in just 61 balls and his 109 came from just 77 balls.

He received some good assistance from Michael Hingston, the left-hander, who made 65.

There were other useful contributions from Ross Waite (25) and Marcus McClean (23).

Bready were all out for 104 with young spinner Morgan Topping the undoubted start of the show with the ball.

He took five for 40, leaving Waringstown massive winners by 221 runs.

Waringstown Seconds will now face Brigade Seconds in the Plate final on Sunday, August 30 at Bready Cricket Club, Magheramason.

Topping was also in the wickets on Saturday as Waringstown recorded a convincing victory over Instonians at Shaw’s Bridge.

He claimed figures of five for 36 as Instonians were dismissed for 142.

After rain the target was reduced to just 57 in 20 overs for the young Waringstown side.

Jonathan Waite hit an unbeaten 30 and Aaron Wright was not out 14 as the villagers won by nine wickets.

Waringstown under-11s are in the final of the Quoile final at Derriaghy on Wednesday night.

They are taking on Instonians with a 6pm start.
