Weather stumps localcricketers on openingday of the new season

Most of the local cricket teams were stumped by the weather last week with several games postponed on the opening day of the season.

Both the Waringstown and Lurgan games were called off after heavy early morning rain. Donaghcloney did manage to play in the afternoon sunshine but they lost by six wickets at Downpatrick.

Donaghcloney batted first and could only muster 133 as a target. (J Dowds 20, M Lyttle 28, M Campbell 23, M Yeates 3-26, J Rea 3-37, T Magowan 2-36)

Downpatrick reached 134 to secure the win for the loss of four wickets.

It could be another frustrating Saturday with rain again forecast and at this stage it is very much a case of wait and see.

In the Premier League Waringstown are scheduled to travel to Instonians while Lurgan are away to Templepatrick in the Challenge Cup.

On Monday Lurgan are away to Muckamore in a league game while Donaghcloney are also away to Academy.
