AFC connections with the Airtricity League leaders goes back to 1990 when the late Tommy McConville, a legend at Oriel Park, played for AFC and helped them win the Bass Bowl.
Dundalk brought a team that had beaten Institute 3-0 last week and contained three of their squad going to Croatia this week for the second leg in their in the Europa League tie .
Despite the vast gap between the sides it still proved an entertaining game to watch with both teams trying to play football.

AFC levelled before half-time with a low drive from 18 yards out by Conor Callaghan.
Dundalk scored another two goals in the second half to win 3-1, but AFC can be pleased with their performance against strong opposition.
They have a good blend of youth and experience which should stand them in good stead for their new season in the top rung of Mid-Ulster football.
