His firepower will hopefully be the boost the Lurgan Blues need to kick off the new year with a much needed victory.

Fabio is not short on confidence ahead of the game. “I’ve been training hard and am ready to go. I can’t wait for Saturday,” he said.

“It would be nice to score on my debut.

“I’ll be in the box ready so hopefully the lads can get the ball to me and I’ll do my best.”

Glenavon have beaten Glenn Ferguson’s side twice this season both home and away and manager Gary Hamilton is hoping the performance from the Boxing Day game at Shamrock Park can be repeated on Saturday.

“It’s a boost to have both Declan and recent signing Simon Kelly here and we will assess which is the best team for Saturday,” said Gary.

“Simon is a versatile defender. He can play centre half right back or right midfield. He is strong in the air and decent on the ball.

“Fabio is a proven goalscorer, he has scored wherever he has played, so hopefully he can bring goals to the team.

“What I find with the League of Ireland players is that they have great attitudes and their work rate and desire to win is there in abundance so hopefully they can bring that into the team.

“With the game being called off on Tuesday night it set us back a bit because you want to keep the momemtum going.

“As we go into the new year our target is to keep improving as a team. We have not done too bad from the turn of last year so hopefully we can have another year like it,” concluded Hamilton. Fans may have to wait to see Simon in action as he was unable to train this week.
