Martin Lennon is the latest non-locally based fan to make a donation towards Glenavon’s fundraising initiative.
Martin, who lives in Kings Heath Birmingham, contacted the club by letter. “Please accept this small token towards the Mourneview Needs You fund. I am a Birmingham City season ticket holder of many years and follow Glenavon’s results closely due to my family originally coming from Lurgan,” he said.
“While visiting relatives in Lurgan in February I was lucky enough to attend the game against Ballymena United and was very impressed with the 7-0 result. I hope to attend more games in the future both at Mourneview Park and away. Good luck for the future.“
When Glenavon got in touch with Martin to thank him he’d been chatting to his uncle who reliably informs him that Glenavon’s legendary centre forward Jimmy Jones is a cousin of Martin’s grandmother.
Jones, who still lives near Mourneview Park, scored 646 goals during his Irish League career (with Belfast Celtic, Glenavon, Portadown, Bangor and Newry Town). Closest to him is another Glenavon legend Glenn Ferguson who finished on 563 goals.
