SINCE Ciaran Martyn signed for Glenavon, the side have been undefeated.

It’s far from a coincidence that the good run has come following the former Glentoran man’s arrival. Glenavon have switched to a 4-5-1 formation and it seems to have worked wonders.

Martyn’s tireless efforts have created more space for his fellow midfielders and boss, Gary Hamilton, has been delighted with his displays.

“Unless you’re playing on the pitch with Ciaran, you don’t realise what he brings to your team. The runs he makes and the space he creates for other players is exceptional. He wins tackles and headers as well and he’s a big plus for our team.

“Sometimes when you watch a match, you’re only aware of the players who are on the ball but if you watched Ciaran Martyn for 90 minutes, you’d see the space he creates. The fitness levels he has are unbelievable. It’s easy to forget that he hasn’t played a game this season until he signed for us.

“He’s maybe not as technically gifted as some other players but his work-rate and fitness levels are brilliant.

“He never stops running and he would say that he’s not match fit yet. He’s given everyone at the club a lift.”
