Glenavon’s Irish Cup tie at Ballinamallard on Monday night lasted only 32 minutes before being abandoned.

A torrential downpour started at the beginning of the tie and as the water began to lie on the pitch referee Mervyn Smyth had no option but to bring proceedings to a halt for player safety.

Tough on the players and away fans who made the long trip for the game.

Glenavon had missed a penalty after Shane McCabe was fouled in the box, but Brian McCaul’s spot kick hit the woodwork.

A date to play the tie at the third attempt is expected to be on Saturday, March 1, but is yet to be confirmed.
