When Darren Durrant and little Cain Farrelly set off from Wexford for Lurgan little did they know the adventure which lay ahead.
Leeds fan Darren, who fosters Cain, stopped over in Dublin on Monday night and travelled up to Mourneview Park the next day - a day early for the game.
However, a potential disaster turned into a dream trip thanks to Glenavon FC and Phil Powell of PSV Glass, High Wycombe, at the game as guest of National Windscreens. When Phil heard of their plight he wanted to help and paid for their hotel for two nights to get over the mishap. “I made a blunder really,” said Darren. “When we got to the ground and found out the match was on Wednesday my heart sank.
“But Glenavon came to the rescue. They allowed Cain to see around the ground and play on the pitch while they organised a hotel for us on Tuesday night.
“When we got to the game Phil paid for another night for us and gave me the money I paid for the night before.
“It’s incredible. This was Cain’s first ever football match and thanks to the kind people at Glenavon and Phil they turned a disaster into a dream for us. I can’t get over the way we were looked after. We had a great night and a nice trip in the end that Cain will always remember.”
