GARY Hamilton has asked the Glenavon board for a modest increase in his playing budget.
As has been well documented, the club have made severe cuts in recent seasons, with the budget further decreased ahead of next term but Hamilton has requested some flexibility
in order to put the best possible team on the pitch.
“We’ve asked the board for a very small amount of extra money but we don’t know whether we’ll get that or not,” he said.
“The board have to run a tight ship, we understand that so we’ll have to wait and see. We’d love to have a bigger budget but that’s not the way it works and we have to make hard decisions.”
Club chairman Adrian Teer says the board will not make any quick decisions and must ensure that Glenavon’s finances are in order, first and foremost.
“We’re looking at it,” he said. “Gary wants a little bit more flexibility but we need to look at the overall income and expenditure. We certainly don’t want to be short of money next year because we have over-spent with wages.”
Hamilton has already made three signings since the season ended less than two weeks ago. David Rainey, Adam Foley and Mark Patton have all joined the club while Andy Coleman, Marc Brown, Kris Lindsay, Andy Kilmartin, Andy McGrory, Kyle Neill,
Conor Hagan and Andrew Mitchell have all extended their deals at the club.
The boss is hoping to make two more new additions to the squad but is also waiting on decisions on other current members of the squad.
“We’re in the middle of talking to people at the minute and are waiting to hear back,” he said.
“We’ll hopefully get a couple tied up this week and if not we’ll start looking again. “It would be a massive boost for us if we got the answers that we want and would be the end of the signings for the summer. We’ll then be able to concentrate on next season.
“We’ve got an offer with Niall Henderson as well and waiting for him to come back to us.”
The boss is delighted with the signings he has made already and is pleased to have more width in the squad. “Mark Patton is an out and out winger, something that we needed. We now have him, Andy McGrory and Adam Foley so we’re a lot better covered in that area.”
