Magherafelt Sky Blues Under 14s 1
GLENAVON Under 14s welcomed Magherafelt Sky Blues to Lurgan Junior High School for what was the wee Lurgan Blues final home league game of the season.
The boys were hoping to end their home campaign on a high by continuing their recent good run of form which has saw them win three League games on the bounce however they were up against a side who had defeated them 4-2 earlier in the season.
From the start though Glenavon were in total control and deservedly went ahead when N. Forsythe latched onto a J. McCandless corner in the opening five minutes. It went from bad to worse for the visitors as they conceded again soon after. M. Weeks this time finding himself in the right place at the right time to fire home from close range.
A third goal arrived courtesy of current leading goalscorer M. Greenfield.
With the Glenavon side rampant even more goals came before the halftime interval. J.Malcolmson who was enjoying a start up front latched onto a through ball before dispatching his effort past the Magherafelt goalkeeper.
A. Spratt then rose highest from another pinpoint J. McCandless corner to make it 5-0. Then yet another corner was this time played short to C. Palmer and it ended with the Glenavon midfielder curling his effort into the far corner of the goal. M. Greenfield then grabbed his second of the game to make it 7-0. J. McCandless was unlucky not to add to the goal tally when his stunning free kick from fully 30 yards was beaten onto the crossbar by the Magherafelt goalkeeper.
The second half started with Glenavon making a few changes but the goalscoring didn’t stop there. A. Spratt and N. Forysthe were again in the thick of the action both scoring their second goals of the game and both again from corners by J. McCandless.
Substitutes C. Downey and C. Duffin both chipped in with a goal apiece too during the second half as the scoreline reached double figures. The goal though that summed up the whole Glenavon performance arrived after a fine move with well over 30 passes in the build up. It finally arrived to the boot of D. Branker whose long range effort from outside the box had the goalkeeper scrambling across his goal to save and B. Hendron was on hand to tuck the loose ball into the net.
After yet another superb display from midfielder J. McCandless he got the goal his performance deserved when he fired an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net from 12 yards to make it 13-0. That was after a goal mouth scramble which saw the Magherafelt goalkeeper claw out M. Greenfields headed effort to deny him a hat trick goal.
Magherafelt did manage a mere consolation goal when a headed effort from a corner went in at the back post close to the end which denied a second clean sheet in a row.
