IRISH LEAGUE: Glenavon seal top-six spot as Dungannon Swifts slump to derby defeat

Goals by David Elebert and James Gray left the Lurgan Blues in control and the final hour of play largely redundant - with Swifts boss Rodney McAree adamant that he had never seen a performance as “bad or as lacklustre”.

“It was brutal, there was a lack of heart, desire and commitment,” said McAree, who will bring his side back to Mourneview Park next month for an Irish Cup semi-final. “There was no passion and we didn’t put the opposition under any pressure so I’m very disappointed with the application from quite a few of the players.

“Maybe certain individuals have their eye on a different game but the league is our bread-and-butter and seventh is massive for the European play-offs.

“We have to correct this and there will be changes, probably quite a few, for next Saturday.

“It’s the only one that I’ve been involved in so I have to put it down to a one-off, it hasn’t happened to me before, a performance as bad or as lacklustre.”

Glenavon assistant manager Paul Millar returned to the matchday dug-out following the sudden death of his son, Philip.

“This football club has been really good to me,” said Millar. “But I couldn’t thank everybody enough for the support I’ve had from Irish League football during such an awful week.”
