Dillon’s departure to Australia at the end of the Irish League season left Glenavon short of defensive options - with Hamilton moving this week to complete the capture of Doyle from Carrick Rangers.

“Andrew has many of the same attributes that, in my opinion, made Conor one of the best centre halves in the league last season,” said Hamilton on the Glenavon official website. “Hopefully, playing and training with the better players in our squad, if he shows the right attitude, it will see him learn and improve.

“He has spent most of his career playing in the Championship but, as we have seen with Joel Cooper and Andy Hall, if the player has the right attitude and commitment, then he will be a success at Glenavon.”

Hamilton confirmed to the ‘MAIL’ the need for summer additions.

“Conor has headed off to Australia and David Elebert’s fitness situation is still uncertain due to back and hamstring problems,” he said. “That has us left with Kris Lindsay and Simon Kelly so there is a need to strengthen.

“We have agreed deals to keep Kris Lindsay, Kyle Neill and Ciaran Martyn at the club.

“Ian Morris has great potential but injury issues prevented us from getting the best out of him last season.

“However, we are in negotiations with Ian about another deal.

“We are also talking to Daniel Kearns and that would give us increased attacking options.

“I want to have competition for places and we are always keen to keep versatile players on board.

“When signing players we ask questions such as will that target fit into the group, will the terms suit the club, can they produce on a consistent basis and do they bring the desired level of overall quality.

“It is important to have everyone pushing for that starting spot but also working together for the bigger picture.

“Negotiations have gone well so far.”
