IF you live in a Neighbourhood Renewal Area (NRA) within Portadown, Brownlow or Lurgan and would be interested in becoming a qualified sports coach then look no further than a current project run by Craigavon Borough Council.

The Sports Development Department, in partnership with Craigavon Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships and funded through the Department of Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, is offering 24 adults aged 16 years and over the opportunity to take part in an Irish Football Association (IFA) Level 1 Football Coaching Qualification for free.

This is being offered as part of a Community Sport Project which aims to get as many people as possible involved in sport and physical activity within the Borough. Those who receive this qualification will be able to use it within their own club or organisation as well as having the opportunity to become involved in the Community Sport Project as a coach or volunteer.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for 24 people to gain a practical qualification that can be used to their advantage within their club or organisation as well as possibly becoming involved in the Community Sport Project as a coach or volunteer,” commented Michael Ruddy, Community Sports Development Officer.

“We need sports clubs, community groups, residents associations, youth and voluntary groups to nominate individuals who they feel would benefit from gaining this qualification as well as benefiting their club or organisation.”

There are eight places reserved for each of the three NRAs within Craigavon. Proof of age and address will be required as part of the application process. To check if an address is within a NRA please visit the DSD website at www.ninis.nisra.gov.uk/nra/MapCatalogue.asp

Participants will also need to demonstrate some experience of sports coaching or volunteering within the last 12 months.

The course will take place at Lurgan Town Arena on Sunday 7th April, Sunday 14th April and Sunday 21st April from 9am to 5pm each day. Participants will be expected to attend all sessions.
