Four titles for David at Junior Championships

LURGAN'S David Acum was in supreme form last week in the Bangor Junior Championships.

He won the under 16 boys, under 18 boys, under 18 boys doubles and under 18 mixed doubles having not dropped a set in any of his final matches.

David had a 6/4, 6/2 win against Will Boyd, Hillsborough, in the under 16 final and won 6/2/ 6/1 against Jake McKibben, Ward Park, in the under 18 final.

In the doubles he teamed up with David Morris to win 6/2. 6/1 in the under 18 boys final and partnered Shannon Andrews, Belfast Boat Club, to a 6/3, 6/1 victory in the under 18 mixed final.

David initially became involved in tennis through the Lurgan Tennis Club summer camp in 2007. He has moved rapidly through the ranks and is now playing some of the best tennis of his career.

Over the past three years he has attended the Lurgan club’s elite performance training programme headed up by club coach Alex Iliev.

David’s success at Bangor comes on the back of a very solid season. And hopefully he will top it all off with a good result in this year’s Ulster Branch Tennis Ireland Masters event where the top eight players in this year’s age groups play off against each other to see who will be the’ best of the best’.
