Finton wins despite tough conditions

It was tough going at Silverwood golf club on Saturday with heavy showers and strong gusts of wind to contend with, and it was also a stroke competition so it proved to be a tough test for the members.

The winner with a fantastic score of gross 70 and a net 69 was Fintan Mc Areavey, this one handicapper had a front nine score of 34 with one birdie at the 8th hole, and eight par’s and a back nine of 36 that contained two more birdies at the 13th and 18th holes, one bogey at the 16th hole, and another six pars and this proved to be enough to win on a better back nine score.

In second place with another net 69 was Declan Mc Geown. He had a front nine score of 37 with two bogeys at the 5th and 6th hole’s, and seven pars, and a back nine of 41 that had five pars at the 13th 15th 16th 17th and 18th holes, and four single bogeys.

Third place went to Joseph Kelly again with a net 69. This 19 handicapper had a mixed round of golf that contained one eagle at the 8th hole, two birdies at the 2nd and 9th hole’s, one triple bogey at the 1st hole, and five bogeys for a front nine of 39, his back nine of 49 had only one par at the 18th hole, and a mixture of single,double, and triple bogeys.

The gross prize was won again by Ethan Headley with a level par round of 72 gross. He had a front nine of 35 with two birdies at the 8th and 9th hole’s, two bogeys at the 1st and 3rd holes, and five pars, and a back nine of 37 with one
