This enthusiastic golfer hits the ball a long way and it was always a question of when, not if, a big score would materialise this summer.

Second place went to Martin Patterson, 19, with 41 points, a birdie at the first giving just the sort of start he wanted.

Michael McMahon, 12, held the lead for most of the day with his 41 points and it was only late in the day when he began to slide. He was 1 under after 6, and just 1 over after 9, but he dropped 6 shots coming home and had to settle for third place.

A see-saw round from John Horan gave him 40pts off 10 and he took 4th place. He had 4 birdies in his round but rather spoiled things with two double bogeys.

Eamon Lynch and Caolan McCann had a battle for the day’s gross prize after each had level par rounds of 70. While Eamon went out in 3 over and came home in 3 under, Caolan went plus 2 and minus 2.

The low section went to Joe Dowey Jnr with 40 points off 6. He was 5 over after 13 holes, but an eagle at 15 and birdie at the last saw him cover the last five holes in 3 under. It was this strong finish which enabled him to hold off the challenge of Dairmuid Mitchell, 10, and James Horan, 6.

Paul McCahon, 16, took the middle section with 38 points, triple bogeys at 5 and 14. Brian Mallon and Robert McVeigh, both 17, each had 38pts but were edged out on the back 9.

Brian Bradford carried the colours for his noted golfing family when he won the high section with 39 points off 21, just pipping regular winner Martin King.

Gareth Moore went on a birdie blitz in Sunday’s Open Stableford as he took the top prize with 41 points off 1. His round consisted of 7 birdies, 9 pars, 1 bogey and 1 double bogey.

Christopher Cork, playing off 14, roared home in level par helped by four birdies for 25 points on the back, taking the runners-up spot.

David Erwin, 6, went round in 72 shots to take third place recording 40 points with Gary McNally fourth with 39 points.

Caolan McCann made up for his disappointment of the previous day when he had missed out on the gross prize on the back 9, by lifting Sunday’s gross with 38 gross.

On Tuesday the ladies played a competition supporting the 3T’s charity sponsored by Phyllis English Physio. The winner with a level par round and 41 points, was junior Captain Maeve Cummins.

Marcel Shanks began his triumphant march back to Category One on Wednesday when he took the Lady Captain’s Prize to the Men with 41 points off 7.
