Solid start seals win for Jerry

The June monthly medal was held at Silverwood Golf Club last Saturday with the deserved winner Jerry Headley with a fine nett 66, playing off an 18 handicap.

Jerry had a solid front nine returning in two under his handicap thanks to fine pars at the 2nd, 5th and 7th holes.

A double bogey 7 was recorded at the first hole with bogeys the remainder on the front 9. Jerry’s back nine was even more impressive with three pars on the 12th, 15th and 17th holes an excellent birdie 2 on the 14th hole and a fine birdie on the 18th hole to claim top spot.

In second place with a very impressive nett 67 playing off a 6 handicap, was popular member Michael Devlin. Michael’s gross 73 (+1) was spilt with a level par front 9 and +1 back 9. Rewarding birdies on the front nine were obtained on holes 4 and 7 were undone by unfortunate bogeys on the 5th and 9th holes. Par scores were obtained on the remainder holes on the front nine. Michael dropped further shots on the 11th and 12th holes however a run of five pars and a birdie on the 15th closed his round. Overall a very good score, rewarding Michael with a new 5 handicap.

Third place with a nett 67, also off a 6 handicap was Darren Mc Cabe. Darren was narrowly beaten on the countback for second place but a great run of 9 straight pars were his tally for the front 9.

He continued this run into the back nine with two further pars at the 10th and 11th holes followed by a super birdie at the par four 12th .

Pars were obtained on the 13th and 14th holes followed by two bogeys on the difficult 15th and 16th holes. He finished with two pars on 17 and 18 for a great round.
