Short circuit bike races in town on Friday

The annual short circuit bike races in Lurgan are set to take place on Friday evening with four seperate youth races kicking off the programme from 6.30pm.

This will be followed by a senior race for category 4 seniors just after 7.30pm which will last for just under an hour.

The circuit will be the same as that used over the past few years, with the start and finish opposite the Southern Regional College and the cyclists racing around part of Hill street, Union street and Bridge Street.

Both of the local cycling clubs from Lurgan, Apollo and Clann Eireann have several good cyclists already entered, and there are others from Portadown, Banbridge and further afield who no doubt will be doing their best to take the best of the prizes away from the locals.

There will be significant interest in the youth events which get onto the road just after 6.30pm, Ciaran Cahoon, James Mulhoulland and Ruairi Grimes with Joseph Lavelle hope to score well for the Clanns in the under 16 event, while Apollo cyclist Jack Murdock, already a winner in the last Interclub League short circuit race will also be trying his best to get a local victory.
