Training stepped upas Stephen prepares for comeback fight

Lurgan boxer Stephen Haughian stepping up his training this week ahead of his scheduled fight with Vaclav Skromach at the Devenish Arms in Belfast on Friday, April 29.

“Training has been going well,” said Stephen. “ I have completed almost 40 rounds of sparring in Belfast over the last number of weeks and feel as if I have never left the ring.

“Peter Turley is the promoter of the show and he has big plans for me in the coming year with a further two fights planned before December. Then he is talking about targeting a belt early in the new year.

“I’ve been doing a lot of training with Peter also in the Gleann Gym in Belfast. He’s a great person and boxing enthusiast, who acts on behalf of the boxer.

“I also want to thank Gary McConville at the Millennium Gym for allowing me to use his facilities in preparation for the fight . It has been a great help.

“There has been great interest in the fight and I hope I put on a good display for anyone attending to support me.”

There is a bus travelling from the Woodville Arms for local fans on the night, however the Devenish Complex is easily accessed by train (Finaghy Stop), or by car.

Places for the bus can be booked by contacting either of the numbers also.

The promoter is having a raffle for various prizes on the night, with half the funds going to the Phoenix ABC after it was recently burnt in an arson attack. Anyone is interested in buying a ticket, they can also be purchased by contacting the above numbers.
