Great comeback by St Enda's
THE Armagh County Junior Camogie Championship final was played between Cullaville and Derrymacash in the newly refurbished Atheletic Grounds on Friday night.
Culloville took full advantage of the wind in the first half. Scores from Margaretta Roland (2-3), Janice O'Farrell (2-1) and Colleen McMahon (0-2) gave the South Armagh camogs a convincing lead. Niamah McGeown was the scorer of the only score for the North Armagh side and it looked like an impossiable uphill struggle. Half time score Culloville 4-6 Derrymacash 1-0.
St. Enda's Derrymacash quickly settled in the opening minutes of the second half. Fomer Queen's Player and recipient of at least two Purcell All Stars, Niamah McGeown, added a second goal on the fourth minute. Her accuracy at free taking chipped away at Culloville's lead converting a further four points. Culloville were unable to add to their scoreboard.
Goals from Claire Henderson, Laura McCrory, Andrea McAlinden and Nicki Greene secured the Hughie Trainer Cup for Derrymacash. Final score Culloville 4-6, Derrymacash 6-4.
Armagh County Chairperson Yvonne Morgan presented Derrymacash Captain Oonagh McGeown with the Cup and paid tribute to both teams on a good game of camogie. Niamah McGeown Derrymacash received the Player of the Match Award. Julie O'Neill had a great game as refeere for the Junior Final.
