McBride unsure of new league structure
FOLLOWING Tuesday's CIS Cup quarter final first leg against Lisburn Distillery, Glenavon will travel to play Paul Kirk's men again on Saturday.
Indeed, the Blues will have faced Distillery three times in four matches by the time the second leg is played on December 16.
Earlier in the season, Glenavon also played Crusaders three times in four games and the fixture list is leaving Head Coach, Stevie McBride with questions surrounding the reinvention of Northern Irish domestic football.
“It’s the exact same scenario as the Crusaders one in that we play them three times in four games,” he said.
“It raises the questions, should it be a two-legged affair and is this 12 team league really working?
“Those questions have to be raised and to me the jury’s out on the smaller league. I’m still undecided whether its a good thing or not.
“I think the league is a lot tougher and teams are beating each other but I don’t think the quality of the football is better. I think there are other clubs who deserve their place in there as well and they have the facilities to be there.”
