A TEAM of local pigeon fanciers led by Kevin Henderson are seen here presenting a cheque for £3350 to cancer research.

This fantastic sum was raised by an auction of young pigeons which was held in the clubrooms of the Lurgan Social HPS recently, indeed the list of donors contained the best and most successful fanciers in Ireland with young birds as far away as Londonderry and Dublin.

Kevin was delighted with the response he received from the fanciers: “When I was compiling the list of fanciers to ask for a young bird and while putting them in auction order, not one of them refused me a young bird when they were contacted which was unbelievable,” he said.

Pigeon fanciers are renowned for their generosity towards charity events by donating many thousands of pounds annually.

A big thankyou must go out to everyone who helped in any way, the donors, the purchasers and especially the auctioneer Mr Ronnie Johnston of the ‘Racing Pigeon’ who travelled from Dundonald to give his professional services free of charge.
