Barry shines on a day when greens prove demanding

With the greens still not at their best scoring was difficult at Silverwood on Saturday with one exception, Barry Magee playing off a 28 handicap returned a net 63 in this stroke event.

The members were playing the course for the first time since the new changes came into place with the old 17th and 18th holes becoming the 10th and 11th holes and new score cards being used for the first time.

Barry went round the front nine in 44 shots with three pars at the 4th 6th and 8th holes, four bogeys at the 3rd 5th 7th and 9th holes one double bogey at the first hole and a nasty triple bogey at the 2nd hole. He had a poor start to the back nine with two triple bogeys at the 10th and 11th holes, three pars at the 14th 15th and 17th holes with the remaining holes played in one over par for a back nine of 47 and a net 63. In second place with was Michael Molloy with a net 68. Playing off a three handicap Michael went around the course in a one under gross 71.

In third place with a net 69 was Niall Geoghegan who has been finding himself in the winner’s circle for the last couple of weeks with some steady golf.

Fourth prize was won by John Clarke with a net 69. John went round the front nine in 41 shots with one birdie at the 1st hole, five pars at the 2nd 3rd 4th 8th and 9th holes, one bogey at the 7th hole, one double bogey at the 6th hole and a quadruple bogey at the 5th hole.

His back nine also of 41 shots contained four bogeys. In 5th place with yet another net 69 was James Scullion. The senior prize was won by Joseph Toland with a net 69.
