Lurgan 39- Ophir 10

Lurgan entertained newcomers to Kukri Qualifying 3 Ophir at Pollock Park on Saturday running out winners 39-10.

Lurgan received a setback in the warmup when scrum half Dylan Gill withdrew following an allergic reaction to the green change strip the home side were playing in due to a kit clash.

Dean Wilson although not fully fit filled in with Richard Dawson covering at scrum half. Lurgan gave a debut to Brian Bassett in the second row.

Lurgan started the slower with Ophir pressing hard on their line. Lurgan gradually came more into it and lead through two penalties from Stephen Nolan and a converted try by Chris Cassidy leaving the half time score 13-0

Again Lurgan started slowly and allowed Ophir back into it with a converted try and a needless penalty. With the score at 13-10 this spurred the home side into action and further tries from Ben McIlwaine, Jack Wilson and Josh Greer sealed the win. Nolan added the extras.

Lurgan have a break next week and then travel to Strabane in the league. Thats 100% so far but the Pollock Park team would need to be on their game for sterner tasks ahead.
