Lurgan College begin their Schools’ Cup campaign on Saturday with a home tie against Limavady Grammar School, kick-off is 10.30am.
Captain Mark McIlwaine will be hoping his pack can progress into the next round.
So far this season the Lurgan College form has been improving with each game.
They have only lost three games so far this season and both were close affairs.
They have had a few injuries to key players such as captain, Mark McIlwaine and fly-half James Patterson but have coped admirably without them. Number 8 Matthew Laird is the top try scorer having notched ten tries and Mark McIlwaine continues to be the most influential player from number 12 with Jordan McIlwaine being a threat from the wing.
Jamie Hunter, Ryan Osbourne, Harry Simpson and James Patterson have all made the step up from Medallion with great ease and look like they will be important players for the school over the next couple of years. About half the team are Upper 6th so have some experience but none beyond the first round.
Jamie Hunter’s grandfather is Ray Hunter who was a double rugby and cricket international who toured South Africa with the Lions in 1962.
The Lurgan College squad is as follows:
D Bingham, D Davis, C Doak, J Patterson, H Simpson, J Hunter, J Good, S Logan, J Harrison, H Webb, M Laird, R Mooney, C Lyness, J McCreeery, N Moffett, P Beck, M Wright, J McIlwaine, R McCann, M McIlwaine, N Keys, T Neill, R Osbourne.
