Last Wednesday 127 golfers competed for the Veteran’s Cup.
A good score was again hard to come by as only ten golfers achieved a tally of 37 points or better.
It was a successful day for Gerry Catney as he won both the Veteran’s Cup as well as the normal midweek sweep. This 16 handicapper pitched in with a total of 40 points to lift both competitions.
Gerry had a steady opening nine with a birdie at the fourth and pars at holes three and eight. His back nine began with a par, par, birdie sequence. He rounded off with pars on the closing two holes.
Runner-up in the sweep was Jim McKee with 40 points. This seven handicapper sparkled on the front side with nine straight pars. He played steadily on the back nine with six more pars on his card. Bogeys on holes 11, 14 and 17 were his nemesis. John Healy was third with 39 points. Fourth spot went to Kevin McKavanagh with 38 points. With the larger entry a fifth net prize went to Kieran Kearney. The gross award went to Caolan McCann. With scores of 37 points Raymond McCrory, Stephen McCann and David O’Neil were just off the prize radar. In the Veterans Cup Gerry Catney secured first place, Winston Hutchison captured second place with 38 points.
Fourteen handicapper Michael Purdy nailed down the final net prize with his tally of 37 points. On the day a birdie at the fifteenth and pars at holes one, three and ten were his featured scores. The Veterans gross award went to five handicapper Tom Douglas with his 30 gross points.
