Drumgor deliver again

IN a repeat of last years League play-off final between Drumgor and INF this week in the Craigavon District darts league sponsored by Bailie Amusements once again it was Drumgor who came out on top.

Champions Drumgor have now opened up a one point gap at the top of the table after a 5-3 victory over last years runners up and with both teams knowing a win would be a big result there were plenty of nerves on show.

Marty Craig got Drumgor on the way with a 2-0 win over the previously unbeaten Stevie McConnon but the INF’s Lee Culbert put a stop to Shane Lennon’s five game winning streak with a 2-1 win over him despite Shane hitting a 17 darter in the second Leg.

Paddy Magill had a 2-0 win over Stevie Duff to put the home team in front. But just like their previous league game against Celtic, Drumgor took control of the middle section of games when they won the next three matches. First, Pearse Richardson got the better of Terry Morrow 2-1 in a game were both players struggled at their doubles and then Clive Hanna beat Vincey Culbert Sr 2-1 despite Vincey hitting an excellent 105 check-out in the second leg. Paul Lennox made it 4-2 to Drumgor when hitting a 120 check-out to secure a 2-1 win over Marty Murray to guarantee Drumgor would not be beaten. Seamy Tallon kept his unbeaten league record going with a 2-0 win over Eamon Duff hitting an 18 darter in the second leg to keep the INF in it, but Paul Donnelly made it three wins out of three for him in the league with a 2-0 win over Paul Magill to give Drumgor the two points and keep them on course for retaining the title.

Eire Og kept the pressure on leaders Drumgor with a comfortable 7-1 win over the Trojans to remain only a point behind. Micky Campbell got them started with a 2-0 win over Rab Lewis and Sam Frazier made it three wins out of three in the league with a 2-1 win over Tony Rutherford Sr. It was soon 3-0 when Mark McLernon hit a 93 check-out on his way to a 2-0 win over John McDowell. The Trojans got their only win of the night next when Andy Colhoun beat Paul McGahan 2-1 but that was to be their last leg win as Eire Og claimed the last four matches all on a 2-0 scoreline. Simon Graham got the better of Joe McGahan and Dermy McStay got his second win in a row when beating Andy Fairbairn to make the match 5-1 and guarantee the win. Hugh Heaney made it 6-1 when beating Tony Rutherford Jr and Paul Callaghan beat Paul Lewis to finish the night comfortably for Eire Og who now sit second in the table.

Premier secured their first win of the season with a hard fought 5-3 win over Clann Eireann. Despite racing into an early 4-0 lead The Premier were glad to secure the two points with Clann Eireann fighting back with wins from Mark Magee over Keith Beale (Keith hit a 180) Nathan McCabe and Joe McCabe who got his 3rd win of the season. Winners for The Premier were Dee Blaney (180), Dee McCready, Mark Nugent, John Cinnamond and Brian McCavigan.
