Lurgan Under 17s hosted Larne at Pollock Park on Saturday in what proved an exciting encounter.
With the home side again struggling for numbers on match day, the visitors were good enough to lend Lurgan four players.
This enabled an 11 a side game to be played and everyone got a run out.
The much more physical Larne side soon took control and built up a commanding lead fairly quickly.
However some fine defending and counter attacking from the home side, led this week by Dylan Mooney, meant that Larne did not have it all their own way.
Despite trailing at the break 26-0, the Lurgan side were not down hearted and were determined to fight back. So much so that they managed to score four well worked tries of their own.
Hard tackling, rucking and support play gradually brought them their just rewards and at times Larne found it difficult to deal with the strong attacking runs. Chris Breen and man of the match Declan Foster in particular putting in the hard yards.
Scrum half Adam O’Neill was never far away with his sniping runs off the break downs helping the back line gain ground on more than one occasion.
The Larne side were however too strong and managed to continue to run in scores.
Although the game finished 20-41 in favour of the visitors, the Lurgan players can be justifiably proud of their performances, both individually and as a team.
