Reece Millar (14) from Lurgan and Chloe Watson (17) from Bangor went to the British Isles Under - 18 Indoor Bowling Championship and came home with the gold medal and title of British Isles pairs champions.
They beat the Scotland 1 team of Carrie McClean and Calvert Allison 10-4, 10-6. They then were taken to the wire by England’s 1 team of Ruby Hill and Jordan Philpott.
The Irish won the first set 8-6, they were pegged back, losing the second 9-7 before winning the tied end to take them to the final against the England 2 team
The England 2 team of Victoria Bilson and Reece Hutton won the first set 9-4 and put pressure on the young Irish pair but they didn’t give up and came back to win the second set 11-2 to take the final to a one tie end.
Reece and Chloe kept the head tight and it was down to the last two bowls to decide the gold medal with Chloe delivering a great bowl right to the jack and the gold medal was won.
This is Reece’s second medal at under-18 level having won Bronze in 2012 becoming the youngest ever to win a medal at this level.
Reece went on to play in the singles but unfortunately lost in his first match to Jordan Philpott which took him out of the medal places.
