The Lurgan club staged their traditional Junior Bowls Camp last week at The Green in the Park during an exceptional spell of beautiful weather.
Over the successful week thirty children, aged from 6 to 11 participated and enjoyed the various introductory games including target bowls.
A good team of enthusiastic adult bowlers headed up by David Millar, one the club’s five IBA Assistant Coaches and Club Youth Co-ordinator spent valuable and beneficial time with the youngsters who improved greatly during the week.
On the last morning Catherine McMillan, World Outdoor ladies singles champion, joined the excited junior bowlers. Catherine involved herself with each group, giving good advice and hints and afterwards with Derek Henderson, president, to present certificates to all the juniors.
The Lurgan Club would like to thank all the parents who brought their children along during the week. Without their excellent support throughout, the camp would not have been such an outstanding success.
The Club Youth Coordinator hopes to be in contact with parents regarding future sessions to develop young bowlers further in the game with the prospect of them being integrated into the club as part of its ongoing Youth Development Policy.
