Lurgan 33(10) Rathfriland 23.25(0)

LURGAN number one Veterans team took advantage of a weakened Rathfriland side to gain the maximum ten league points at Lurgan Park last Monday afternoon.

Rink one saw the fine scoring foursome of Harry Cosgrove, Billy Martin, Aubrey Bell and Vincent Devlin take a comfortable 10-2 lead from the first nine ends.

The three bowler Rathfriland rink, under skip J McClimond, could only reply with ten shots in their last five winning ends to reduce Lurgan rinks final scoreline to 16-12 which was amended to 16-9 as a result of Rathfriland forfeitting one quarter of their shots.

On rink two, Lurgan skip Eddie McCourt, Charlie Lindsay, Bobby Livingstone and Jack Duff picked up several high scoring shots in the first nine end period to go 10-5 ahead.

Rathfriland’s three bowl rink, under skip I. Gibbons, replied in the last nine ends, taking control to clinch a total of 14 shots from their seven winning ends to finish 19-17. This was amended to 19-14.25 for a well-deserved victory to the Lurgan rink.
