AFTER several years away from the race track Mark Murphy celebrated his return with a podium at Nutts Corner.
It was almost a fairytale victory, Mark just being beaten into second place at the line by three tenths of a second.
Mark, after qualifying well, got a good start in the race and led the field of 21 riders for the first two laps. However he was soon joined at the front by Dean Campbell. The two battled for the lead throughout the remainder of the ten lap race and on the last lap it was still neck and neck.
Side by side out of the last corner and up to the finish line it looked like a dead heat. It took the timing system to manage the decision with Mark losing out by that smallest of margins.
Mark’s comeback follows on from an offer of sponsorship earlier this year by Lee Rogers to ride his Yamaha R6. Both rider and sponsor are obviously delighted with their first race result. Mark, who has been training hard pre-season, including motocrossing at weekends to get fit and race ready, would also like to thank his long time mentor Woolsey Coulter, who was at the meeting giving advice and guidance and his pit crew Nigel Parks.
With such an encouraging start to their season Mark and Lee are looking forward to their next outing at Kirkiston on June 1.
Mark and Lee thank Watson Recovery and BC Concrete for their sponsorship.
