THE final weeks of December at Lurgan Golf Club were interrupted by unwanted wet weather.
However, golfers still participated in a number of sweep competitions at the club.
The senior golfers in the club played in their monthly competition on the 17th December. The entry was less than in previous months but the scoring for this 14 holes competition was still pretty impressive with ten competitors shooting scores of 29 points or better. Twenty handicapper Derek Johnston was the December senior winner. Derek won with a score of 36 points. He was through the front seven with a couple of pars at holes six and eight. He was very competitive on the homeward seven. He returned par figures at holes ten, twelve, fifteen, seventeen and eighteen to nudge him into top spot.
Maurice Turnbull was second with another tidy score of 35 points. Maurice had a solid front seven with pars at holes one, two and nine. A strong quartet of pars at holes ten, twelve, seventeen and eighteen ushered this 22 handicapper into second position.
The other worthy scoring was attained by the following: 33 points Norman Sands; 32 pts Dessie Walsh; 30 pts Stanley Jelly (Portadown), Hammie Baxter, John Forrester, Patrick McGleenon; 29 pts Bryan Turkington, Aidan Thornbury.
The Ladies prize went to Fiona Cummins with an useful tally of 30 points.
