Town side go home empty handed

BALMORAL 96 (7)

LURGAN 65 (0)

After their summer break Lurgan seniors returned to action with a trip to Balmoral.

They were behind from the start as the home team looked determined to make up for the early season defeat at the hands of Lurgan.

They applied pressure from the start building up a 30-15 lead after only five ends. This was as good as it would get for Lurgan as Balmoral continued to increase their lead throughout, The home team didn’t let up as they romped home 96-65, leaving the visitors to go home empty handed.

On rink one Ivor Mitchell, Richard McClune, Kris Matchett and skip Harry Cosgrove lost 11 shots in the opening three ends against the experienced Balmoral skip M Reid.

The Lurgan rink settled and had at one stage reduced this deficit to only five shots however the Balmoral rink would not be denied as they won by 11 shots, 26-15.

On two Melvyn Hamilton, Declan McCabrey, Bobby Ruddell and skip Mansell Montgomery exchanged shots early against a Balmoral rink skipped by D Donaghy.

The home rink, inspired by their skip, punished the Lurgan four. Balmoral would lead this rink 19-7 at the half, though over the second half Lurgan kept them from increasing their lead though a fightback was a step too far as the home team won 26-15

On rink three for Lurgan Gareth Bunting, David Millar, Sam Neill and Alan Roberts, looked set early on against skip J Stevenson leading 7-4 and trailing by only two shots at the midpoint. However they dropped a few high scoring ends tas Balmoral won 25-17.

On rink four Bobby Boness, Ronnie McCullough, Pete McGrail and skip Alan Briggs, kept their game against C Craig close in the first half of the game, though like their rink three counterparts a few slack ends saw Balmoral score 10 shots.

Despite scoring eight over two ends it was not enough to come back, losing by a single shot 19-18.
