GERARD Crewe lifted The Celtic Club’s second trophy of the year when winning the annual five-a-side competition to add to their Drumgor Cup success, after a win over Eire Og in the final in Derryhirk on Thursday night.
With a strong team comprising of Anto Crewe, Mick Millar, Davy McCusker and Tommy McErlene it was Gerard who hit the winning double 12 against Eire Og’s Mick Hendron to claim the title.
Clann Eireann started off the night well, beating league leaders Drumgor with a 3-2 win.
The wins coming from Joe McCabe, Nathan McCabe and Mark Magee but they were unable to follow it up, losing 3-0 in the next round.
Eire Og made their way to their second consecutive final with a win over the Stables team.
The host team Derryhirk put out the INF 3-2 in the early rounds only to lose 3-0 to Celtic in the semi-final.
In the final wins for Mick Millar, Tommy McErlene and Gerard Crewe meant lifting the cup for Celtic on a 3-1 score line against Eire Og.
This Thursday night sees the INF five-a-sides taking place in the Forresters club and will give all the local teams a chance to test their skills against other teams from Belfast and Crumlin in this annual competition which is open to anyone and any team who wishes to take part.
All players are asked to be at the club for 8.30pm.
