Ball machine at your service!

TENNIS lovers in Ballymena will never again be able to use the old excuse that they couldn't find a practice partner!

A new tennis ball launcher is available for hire at the sport’s People’s Park base, meaning that players can hone their return skills without a human being at the other end of the court.

Members of Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club joined Council acting leisure services supervisor Des Ballentine to enjoy the benefits of the new machine last week.

The ball launcher is a tremendous aid for coaching and is available for hire for persons over the age of 16 or for younger players supervised by an adult.

Full details are available by contacting reception at the People’s Park.

Meanwhile, Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club recently held its annual charity tournament, which was again run as a round robin event with partners being drawn at random.

With more male participants on the day than female some of the pairings were made up of two male players who played under a handicap when matched with a mixed couple.

Two groups of seven played a round robin event with the winners of each group playing in the final. A competitive final saw Roger Henry and John Martin defeat Kay and Chris Rainey.

The chosen charity this year was the Smiles Foundation for Children.
