PICTURE GALLERY: Ballymena Tennis Club Junior Festival

BALLYMENA Tennis Club's annual Junior Tennis Festival was an outstanding success with a record number of young players taking part.

Some 60 juniors from 4 to 16 years of age were grouped according to age and ability.

Each group was supervised by the club's qualified coaches and experienced assistants who ran a continuous programme of activities with coaching and playing fun games throughout the week.

The enthusiasm of all was second to none resulting in the children having a marvellous week in a wonderfully friendly atmosphere.

Lots of parents remained throughout the week watching how the club's experienced organising team of coaches and assistants ran a professional programme for the junior players.

The compliments from parents were numerous and as a result many young players and their parents have already joined as individuals or taken Family Membership which is outstanding value.

Mayor, Councillor James Currie, and Councillor Maurice Mills came on Friday to wish the young players well which was gratefully appreciated by all .

Fergus Barklie Chairman of Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club thanked them for coming and also thanked the generous support from Galgorm Spar and Doury Road Spar who again provided refreshments everyday for the children.

Also great thanks to The Magic Roundabout Nursery who provided nearly 100 bags of sweets as prizes for the children throughout the week, while further financial backing came from an anonymous sponsor.

Fergus concluded by thanking coaches Laura McKelvey and Joanne Logan plus Derek Calderwood and all the assistants for their dedication in making this year's event the outstanding Junior Festival yet.

Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club's continuous programme of coaching and play for adults and juniors is structured for all ages and standards of players.

Social club play also takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturday mornings, while adult coaching in groups or individual is available continually.

Junior Club Play runs 50 weeks of the year on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings.
