Roger brings strings skill to Wimbledon

BALLYMENA man Roger Henry will once again prove he has many 'strings' to his bow at this year's Wimbledon.

He is now with the Official Stringing Team at Wimbledon - joining 12 others from the UK and Europe.

Seven years ago senior stringer Ray Gooden taught him the skills, and this is the fourth year at tournaments. Roger has strung racquets for stars like Venus and Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and, in the Odyssey, Belfast, John McEnroe and Pat Cash.

His wife Helen is making her first visit to Wimbledon this year and looking forward to collecting a few autographs!

How long does it take to string a racquet? "Usually around 30 minutes", Roger said.

"Last year Serena had 55 re-strings during the fortnight!"
