Tennis club boost for dog charity

BALLYMENA Lawn Tennis Club ran a successful charity tournament recently, with donations in aid of the Dogs Trust.

Derek Calderwood and Joy Adams beat Colin Smith and Kay Rainey in a close-fought final . Chris Rainey and Joanne Logan beat John Martin and Karen Cherry in a tie breaker to gain third place.

Tennis balls and shirts were very kindly provided by Roger Henry of Racket Solutions, Professional Stringing and Accessory Service.

A special mention should also go to the younger players who took part, with Claire Hamilton and Weronika Slawinski proving every bit the equal of the seniors!

The club raised 66 for the Dogs Trust which will be used to buy food and toys for the dogs at the Dogs Trust at Teeshan, Ballymena.

* Meanwhile, the club’s ladies’ team wrapped up the Ladies’ Singles League Division Four with a victory over Cavehill.

Carol Adams won 6-2, 6-1; Kaye Rainey won 6-4, 6-2; and although captain Joanne Logan lost 6-4, 6-1 it was still enough to complete Ballymena’s fourth win in four games.
