Rare defeat for Ciara

CIARA Mulholland, Clann Eireann's young star cyclist, had to suffer a rare defeat in the Ulster Ladies League race at Coalisland last Sunday.

She now has a lot to do at the Bartins Bay race in Aghagallon in ten day's time if she is to hold her overall lead.

Her main rival, Bangor girl Rachel Mitchell, is now equal with Ciara on points on the league table.

In the men's 55 mile race at Coalisland, Martin McConville, Conor Grimes and Warren McNeill represented the club, and while they were continually active at the front of the 60 strong main bunch, they all missed out on being placed in the top 10 finishers.

Last Saturday John Heverin rode strongly, but like the others at Coalisland, missed the important move and was unplaced at the end.

Next weekend brings the Ciclisport Cup at Moneymore on Saturday, and on Sunday the big event is the John Deere Classic in Donegal.

Also listed for Sunday is a series of races at Bohermeen, Co Meath. Of course, most local cycling enthusiasts will be happy to learn that the first local race of the year, the Aghagallon Cup, takes place at Bartins Bay on Sunday week, March 28, and there will be events for all categories from beginners right up to senior.
