Sarsfields promoted
SARSFIELDS will be playing Division One football next season.
They have made the return after a thirteen year absence from the top flight.
Sarsfields won the Division Two title after Friday night’s win over Clann ireann ensured they cannot be caught. This is a remarkable achievement considering just last season Sarsfields were playing Division Three football.
The icing on the cake was that this win ensured that the Highmoss have had a one hundred percent home record for two full seasons under Kieran McGurk’s management.
Such is the dedication of these players that many of them gave up holidays throughout the season or cut them short so they were available for matches.
Even for this match, Mark Reynolds insisted on playing the first half before rushing off at half time for the international airport to go on a well deserved holiday.
The final whistle began a long night of celebration at the club, beginning with the presentation of the Division Two trophy by Armagh chairman Kevin Brady.
Lurgan man Kevin said he was delighted to see another North Armagh club in Division One and he thought that this could only be good for football in the area. He congratulated the team on their achievements before presenting the Trophy to Sarsfields captain Paul Magee.
Unfortunately Sarsfields will not be joined in Division One by Tir na ng, the other North Armagh promotion contenders, after they were defeated by Granemore in their final match.
