Some exciting draws in this season's championships

SEVERAL mouth watering championship ties have been pulled from the hat for the 2008 season.

Although Clan na Gael have received a bye into the second round there are few easy games in the overall line ups.

In the Gerry Fegan Cup reigning championship Crossmaglen have a real tough opener against Dromintee. Yet the county board should have their fixture calendars at the ready as several pairings look to be potential draws.

Clann Eireann face St Michael’s in what should be close run affair, also in the senior section Tir na nOg play Pearse Ogs with Maghery tackling Killeavey.

The intermediate series looks like a potential minefield with Cullyhanna, Silverbridge, and Culloville the favourites to lift the title.

St Peter’s play Ballyhegan, Sarsfields tackle An Port Mor, Wolfe Tones play north Armagh rivals Annaghmore and St Paul’s play Silverbridge.

In the junior championship Eire Og face Phelim Brady’s.

So how could the games pan out for the local clubs.

Championship - Clann Eireann v St Michael’s. Possible odds - Clann Eireann 5/4, St Michael’s 4/5

Prospect of a draw here, but Clann Eireann would have a real chance of progressing, finished below St Michael’s in the league last season but who knows in cup football. Verdict – a draw.

Tir na nOg v Pearse Og. Possible odds - Tir Na Nog 9/4, Pearse Og 1/2

The Portadown men showed their worth, but only briefly last season without Brian Mallon who will be a big loss in 2008. Tir na nOg have a big task here.

Verdict – Pearse Og

Maghery v Killeavey. Possible Odds – Maghery evens, Killeavey evens

Another draw in prospect but James Lavery and Stephan Forker could shade it for Maghery, a tough game for the Lough Shore men

Verdict – Maghery

Intermediate - Ballyhegan v St Peter’s. Possible Odds – Ballyhegan 6/4, St Peter’s 4/6

The Whites could do the job here if that is they are going well in division three. Could be too slick for Ballyhegan and should progress

Verdict – St Peter’s

Sarsfields v An Port Mor. Possible Odds – Sarsfield’s 4/9, An Port Mor 3/1

Not a bad draw for the High Moss. Lost and won against their cup rivals last season but are an overall better tam with more chances to improve, should be I the next round

Verdict – Sarsfields

Silverbridge v St Paul’s. Possible Odds – Silverbridge 2/5, St Paul’s 4/1

Big ask here for the saints, considering the league standings of both sides, if the game was in Teghnevan St Paul’s would have a chance. At Abbey Park?

Verdict – Silverbridge

Wolfe Tones v Annaghmore. Possible Odds – Wolfe Tones 4/7, Annaghmore 2/1

Dodgy opener for the Tones, they could get a cup run on their best form – might have to settle for a narrow win here.

Verdict – Tones

Junior Championship - Eire Og v Phelim Brady’s. Possible Odds – Eire Og 1/3, Phelim Brady’s 5/1

Nice draw for the Pinebank men. No shock here and the Ogs will march on.

Verdict – Eire Og.
