Stute a must win game
GLENAVON boss Marty Quinn has told his side that they MUST pick up all three points in this Saturday's Carling Premiership match against Institute if they are to avoid being hauled back towards the foot of the table.
The Blues now sit 10 points ahead of Institute with the Londonderry side having one game in hand. Glenavon have now lost their last five league fixtures and see themselves in eighth spot two points ahead of Ballymena who have a game in hand.
An upturn in results is imperative and Quinn knows that it must start at Drumahoe this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
“Fortunately the results elsewhere went our way last Saturday but it’s going to be hard to hold on to eighth place. We’ve got to go to Institute and get maximum points,” he said plainly.
“There’s no ifs, ands or buts about it. We’ve got to win that game but whether we have the character to do that remains to be seen.
“I am looking forward to it though. I have had tremendous support around the club. I haven’t been criticised and I think everyone has the utmost faith in me and I have the utmost faith in my ability to turn our club around as well.
“If this time next year we’re still in the same boat I’ll be questioning myself very much but at the moment I realise that the team doesn’t have my pattern on it.
“My pattern is a never say die attitude with good players and a big heart. The thing is getting the right type of player in there.”
However, Quinn doesn’t expect his injury worries to ease ahead of the lengthy trip with Conor Walsh, Hugh Davey and Tony Grant all still struggling.
And after that vital match, things don’t get any easier for the Blues with a tough Carling Premiership fixture against Linfield at Windsor Park following on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).
