IT was a tale of two halves for the golfers of Edenmore last Saturday.
The morning weather was calm, sunny and quite warm, interspersed with very occasional light drizzle.
The afternoon golfers by comparison had to play through a deluge of torrential rain storms more akin to the monsoons of other countries, with the greens flooding at times.
However the competition did go on and the eventual overall winner was Isaac Mulholland who returned a nett 65.
Isaac who played off 24 had three pars on the front nine and started the back nine strong with a par on the tenth and another on the twelfth. Isaac kept a tight eye on his game and now gets to play of a new handicap of 21.6
Patrick Agnew who was one of the very early starters and enjoyed the best of the weather also had a fine round.
Patrick went round in 73 shots to win the gross prize. Patrick parred every hole to the eleventh with birdies on the fifth and ninth. He had a further three pars from the thirteenth and at one stage was on track for a level par gross round.
The section winners were as follows:
In section one (0-13) the winner was Clive Knox with a nett 68, just beating David Dunlop on the back nine who also had a nett 68 pushing Paul Patterson into third with a nett 69.
Section two (14-18) had a clear winner in Edward Moulds on a nett 67 with Stuart Black getting the better of Aaron Lamont again on a better back nine after both players returned a net 70.
Jonathon McGahey was again in the winners enclosure in the (19-22) section after winning with a nett 68. He was followed in by David McEwan and Brian Leslie who both had rounds of nett 72.
Section four (23-28) had a decisive winner when Craig Ward returned a nett 68 with John Hinds second on 70 with Kenny Hutchinson third on 71.
Wednesday at Edenmore was the monthly open competition. It was great to see many more golfers from throughout the province participating in this monthly fixture.
On this occasion it was won by a local golfer. Shane O’Hanlon was the decisive winner and is now playing of a handicap of 11 after returning a magnificent 42 points.
Maurice Hull was the runner up with 40 points beating Simon Henderson and Visitor Stephen Mawhinney on the better back nine. Euan Rowlands took fifth spot on 38pts. The gross was won by the up and coming young golfer Stuart Baird, with a gross 76.
