The more support the better - Teer
CLUB chairman Adrian Teer has stressed the importance of fans coming out in number this season, with next season's wage budget largely dependent on gate receipts.
The IFA’s new wage cap means that only 60% of the club’s ‘allowable income’ will be permitted to be used for the playing staff’s wage budget. Therefore, the more people coming through the turnstiles and the more sponsors the club get, the more Glenavon will be able to pay in wages next season and the more successful they will be. Theoretically anyway.
“There’s been a heartening increase in attendance at our first two home league games. The attendance last Saturday against Donegal Celtic was certainly better than we had anticipated. Hopefully that trend will continue,” he said.
“Gates receipts are an integral part of the allowable income criteria for the IFA’s salary cap protocol. Our wage budget next season cannot exceed 60% of that allowable income, which also includes the likes of advertising, sponsorship, club lottery, shares, supporters’ clubs’ donations and fundraising events.
“Our income throughout this season will therefore determine what our maximum wage budget, set by the IFA, is to be for next season. That’s why it’s vitally important that our allowable income is maximised.
“The board would therefore appeal to our fans and benefactors, either individually or collectively, to become involved in the likes of the match ball or ‘man of the match’ sponsorships, the lottery, purchase of shares, the Century Club and where possible to assist in securing ground advertising or other forms of sponsorship.
“The more people we get in through the turnstiles the better and the more we get in through sponsorships and fundraising the better.”
